Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

You don’t need to aspire to become a black belt in martial arts to reap the many benefits of practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This form of self defense encompasses a method of training that promotes all around fitness, including strength, flexibility, and stress reduction.

An art of weaponless self defense, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) relies on principles of physics and knowledge of human anatomy to overcome an attacker with little effort. Practitioners use leverage and balance to achieve maximum effect with minimum effort. Jiu-Jitsu techniques include joint locks, throws, submission holds, chokes and takedowns. You will earn belts upon demonstration of improved technique, skill and a strong work ethic.

Beginners are always welcome and you’ll find a supportive group of fellow practitioners. Individuals progress at their own pace and based on their personal goals.

Beginner Brazilian jiu-jitsu / No-Gi

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu emphasizes taking an opponent to the ground and utilizing ground techniques and submission holds involving joint-locks and choke holds. The premise is that most of the advantage of a larger, stronger opponent comes from superior reach and more powerful strikes, both of which are somewhat negated when grappling on the ground. BJJ teaches you how to establish the dominant position and then submit your opponent using arm bars, chokes, foot locks and other joint manipulations.

Intermediate Brazilian jiu-jitsu

This class focuses on specific and advanced techniques, conditioning, more live grappling (rolling). White belts must go through the beginner class first, and the instructor will recommend when the student is able to advance.

Required Gear: Gi/Kimono, mouthpiece, cup, t-shirt.

Competition / Team Brazilian jiu-jitsu

This class is by invitation only. Students must receive instructor approval before registering for the class. The curriculum and the techniques are the same as those taught in all other classes, however, the focus is on competition.

Open Mat

Open mat class students review the techniques learned over the week. This is a good time to ask questions. All levels are welcome and Gi is optional.

Rings and Open Mat

Mat will be open and rings available for training without instruction. This is a good time to come and practice positions with a training partner. Sparring is not allowed without an instructor present.

Lil’ Ninja Martial Arts Programs

This program helps children improve coordination, fitness and agility in a safe, fun, and exciting environment. Benefits include improved confidence, self-esteem and self defense. This is a formal belt program with progression for the participants to advance.

Wrestling

Taking a bit from the three disciplines of wrestling, Folkstyle, Freestyle and Greco-Roman, this class teaches the fundamentals of wrestling while addressing individuals interests and needs. It exposes you to many different wrestling techniques and aims to find the ones that will work for you.  Walk-ins are welcome, whether you’re a beginner looking to get in better shape or an experienced athletes looking to compete.
